Messages and what they mean
WalletWallet holders·Updated
What each wallet key and backup key message means, and what to do next, by where you see it.
Names, amounts and times are examples.
What the common words mean
- “Nothing was added”, “Nothing was sent”, “Nothing was reported”, “Nothing changed”, or a line that ends “Nothing was deleted.”: the step stopped before it reached Tempo, and no money moved. Two exceptions. “Tempo reverted it. At most the network fee was spent.”: nothing arrived, but the network fee may have been paid. And a line that starts “Tempo still shows”: the deletion went out, but Swaps’ next read still shows the key (see deleting, below).
- “Couldn’t reach Tempo” or “Check this send”: Swaps doesn’t know the outcome yet. Check Activity before you try again. Swaps reads your wallet again before any retry.
- “We couldn’t finish this step”: “The connection or Swaps failed, not your key. No money moved.”
- “This device’s clock looks wrong”: “We couldn’t check the time with the network, so nothing was signed. A wrong clock stops this, not your wallet.” Turn on automatic date and time.
- Once a move has sent money, that page says “The rest wasn’t moved” about what’s left.
Adding and confirming a backup key
That’s where your wallet key is “Choose another device or password manager. Nothing was added.”
Your browser won’t save the backup key where your wallet key already is. Choose another password manager, a security key or another phone. Add a backup key
Nothing was added “The passkey prompt didn’t finish.”
You closed the first prompt, or it timed out. No passkey was saved. Try again.
Passkey saved, not added yet “Approve it here, or where this wallet’s key lives.”
“The passkey is in your device or password manager, but it isn’t a key of this wallet until this wallet’s key approves it.” Try again on this page: it asks only for the approval.
That’s not this wallet’s key “Approve with this wallet’s passkey. Nothing was added.”
You approved with a passkey that isn’t your wallet key. Try again and choose “Swaps Wallet · …” (older wallets: “Swaps Tempo Wallet”).
Couldn’t reach Tempo “We’ll read your wallet again before retrying.”
Tempo didn’t answer, so Swaps doesn’t know yet whether the key was added. Wait a moment, then try again.
Nothing was added “Swaps couldn’t start this. Try again later.”
Swaps stopped before anything reached Tempo, for example because a daily limit on these steps was reached. Try again later.
Nothing was added “Finish getting back into your wallet first.”
Your wallet key is recorded as lost or stolen. Get back in first, or, if it may be stolen, move your money.
Not confirmed yet “The prompt didn’t finish. Your backup is added.”
You closed the prompt that checks your backup key. It’s added. Confirm it later with “Confirm backup key”.
Not confirmed yet “Swaps couldn’t start the check. Your backup is added.”
Your backup key is added, but the check didn’t start. Try again later.
Backup key not confirmed “That passkey didn’t sign as this wallet’s backup.”
Another passkey signed, often your wallet key. Try again and choose “Swaps backup key · …”.
This device’s clock looks wrong “Turn on automatic date and time, or try again.”
Nothing was signed. Turn on automatic date and time on this device.
Can’t add a backup key now “Swaps can’t cover the network fee right now. Contact support.”
Swaps can’t pay this network fee at the moment: the network may be busy, or a daily limit was reached. This can pass. Try again later, or contact support.
Swaps can’t add another backup key “This wallet used its paid adds. Contact support.”
This wallet has used the backup key adds Swaps pays for (up to three). Waiting won’t change this: contact support.
A step is on its way “We’ll read Tempo again within 3 min.”
An earlier step is still on its way to Tempo. Wait for the time shown: Swaps checks again by itself.
Couldn’t read the network “Add money and Receive wait until we can.”
Swaps couldn’t read your wallet on Tempo. Add money and Receive wait for that read, not for a backup key. Try again. If it keeps failing, contact support.
Couldn’t read the network “Receive waits until we can.”, “New bank details wait until we can.” or “Wallet settlement waits until we can.”
The same failed read, at another way to pay in. It waits for the read, not for a backup key. Try again. If it keeps failing, contact support.
Reading your backup key
Right after you create your wallet, Add money and Receive wait a moment for this read.
Confirming your wallet key
Confirm your wallet key “Sign once with this wallet’s key.”
A new way to pay into your wallet waits for one signature by your wallet key, because it’s new or hasn’t signed in 30 days. Choose “Confirm your key”. It moves no money. At a door that refused a request you may see “Sign once with this wallet’s key, then try again.” In Receive: “Sign once with this wallet’s key to show its address.” In Wallet options: “New addresses, bank details and links wait for this key.” Copy address: “Opens after you confirm your key.”
Confirm this wallet’s key in Wallet, then try again.
You chose your own Swaps Wallet as where this money goes, and its key is new or hasn’t signed in 30 days. Confirm your key in Wallet, then try again.
That passkey isn’t this wallet’s key. Choose another one.
The prompt can list several Swaps passkeys, your sign-in passkey too. Use “Choose another passkey” and pick your wallet key. A second wrong passkey ends this attempt.
We couldn’t finish this step “The connection or Swaps failed, not your key. No money moved.”
Try again. If it keeps failing, contact support.
Session expired “Your sign-in expired. Sign in again to access your wallet — your funds and passkey are untouched.”
Your Swaps sign-in ended, not your key. Choose “Sign in again”.
Try again, or use your wallet key.
After getting back in, Swaps asked for the key of the device where you got back in, and it didn’t answer. Try again on that device. If your wallet key is on this one, choose “Use your wallet key instead”.
We couldn’t check the keys added to this wallet.
Swaps couldn’t read the keys added to your wallet, so this step uses your wallet key. Try again to read them.
Your wallet key isn’t confirmed yet “Your money stays in this wallet. Only your passkeys can move it.”
This attempt ended: the prompt closed or timed out, or the key didn’t sign. It doesn’t mean your key is lost, and money already on its way keeps arriving. Look in the places Swaps lists under “Where to look”, then try again from Wallet options on the device that has the key. If you added a backup key and can’t find your wallet key, choose “I can’t find my key” on your wallet’s home or in Settings › Passkeys. In a dialog the line is “Your money stays in this wallet. Finish on the device with this wallet’s key.” At a door: “Open Swaps on the device with this wallet’s key, then try again.”
This step couldn’t start for this wallet.
Swaps couldn’t start the check for this wallet. This says nothing about your key. Contact support.
We couldn’t check this wallet’s key “Money already on its way keeps arriving.”
Swaps couldn’t read your key’s state, so nothing is known about it. Try again, or contact support. In Wallet options it reads “We couldn’t check this wallet’s key.”, and Copy address says “Opens once we can check the key.”
Nothing to confirm for this wallet now.
There’s nothing to sign for this wallet right now.
No wallet to confirm “This account has no Swaps Wallet.”
This Swaps account has no wallet. Check you’re signed in to the account that owns it: a backup key and a wallet key work only there. If the title is “Wallet not available”, contact support.
Your backup key’s status, and deleting it
Couldn’t read the network
Swaps couldn’t read Tempo, so it can’t show your backup key’s status. Try again. If it keeps failing, contact support.
When deleting your backup key:
- “The passkey prompt didn’t finish. Nothing was deleted.” You closed the prompt. Try again.
- “That’s not this wallet’s key. Nothing was deleted.” Approve with your wallet key.
- “Couldn’t confirm it on Tempo. Check again in a moment.” The outcome isn’t known yet. Check again before you try again.
- “Tempo still shows the backup key. Nothing changed.” The deletion went out, but Swaps’ next read of Tempo still shows the key. Wait a moment and check the status before you try again.
- “Swaps couldn’t start this. Nothing was deleted.” Try again later.
- “Approve with a different key. Nothing was deleted.” You approved with the key you’re deleting. Approve with another key of this wallet.
- “It’s your last working key. Nothing was deleted.” While your wallet key is recorded as lost or stolen, Swaps keeps the last key that still works.
- “Turn on automatic date and time. Nothing was deleted.”
- “A step is on its way. Try again within 2 min.”
You deleted the backup passkey in your password manager.
Swaps still shows it as “Confirmed”, because it is still a key of your wallet on Tempo, and a copy kept elsewhere, or one restored from Deleted, can still sign. Delete it in Swaps too.
Getting back in with your backup key
Backup not confirmed yet “Your backup isn’t confirmed yet. It may still work.”
“This backup hasn’t signed yet. Its signature may still fail; if it does, nothing is sent.” You can still try it.
The prompt didn’t finish
A prompt closed or timed out. The line says where it stopped:
- “Nothing was added. Try again when you’re ready.”
- “This phone’s key is added, not confirmed yet.” Choose “Confirm this phone’s key”.
- “It may be on another device. Add one here.” The key from an earlier visit isn’t on this device. Choose “Add a key here”.
- “Your answer wasn’t saved. Nothing changed.” Try again.
Passkey saved, not added yet “Approve it with your backup key to finish.”
“The passkey is saved, but it isn’t a key of this wallet until your backup key approves it, here or where that key lives.” Try again: it asks only for the approval.
That’s where your backup is “Choose a different place to save it. Nothing was added.”
“Save it on this phone, not in the password manager or security key that holds your backup.”
That’s not this wallet’s backup “Choose your backup key in the prompt. Nothing was added.”
Another passkey was chosen to approve. Try again and choose “Swaps backup key · …”.
Not confirmed “That passkey didn’t sign as this phone’s key.” or “That passkey didn’t sign for this wallet. Nothing changed.”
Another passkey signed. Try again with this device’s key.
Your backup key doesn’t work now “Tempo doesn’t show it on this wallet. Contact support.”
“Whoever has your wallet key can remove the backup. Tell support what happened.” There’s no retry: contact support now.
Nothing was added or Nothing changed “Swaps couldn’t start this step. Try again later.”
Swaps stopped before anything reached Tempo, for example because a daily limit was reached. Try again later.
Couldn’t reach Tempo “We’ll read your wallet again before retrying.”
Tempo didn’t answer, so the outcome isn’t known yet. Try again: Swaps checks your wallet first.
This device’s clock looks wrong
Nothing was signed. Turn on automatic date and time on this device.
A key is on its way “We’ll read Tempo again within 2 min.”
An earlier step is still on its way to Tempo. Wait for the time shown.
All phone keys are used “This wallet can’t add another phone key. Contact support.”
This wallet has used the device keys Swaps pays for (up to three). Contact support.
Can’t add this phone’s key now “Swaps can’t cover the network fee right now. Contact support.”
Swaps can’t pay this network fee at the moment. Try again later, or contact support.
A key waits for its check Sign once with “Swaps device key · Nov 3 · 2C9E”.
A device key from an earlier visit isn’t confirmed yet. If this device has it, choose “Confirm this key”. If not, close the prompt, then choose “Add a key here”.
This wallet is marked stolen “Move your balance out, or contact support.”
A wallet marked stolen can’t take the Lost path. Move your balance to a new address.
You can send again “Payments in stay closed. Contact support.”
You can send with this device’s key, but Swaps support kept payments into your wallet closed. Contact support.
You can send again “Swaps support will finish this.”
Your wallet key signed after Swaps support recorded it as lost, so Swaps support decides about payments in. Contact support.
You’re signed in to another Swaps account.
That account doesn’t see your wallet, and your backup key doesn’t work there. Sign in to the account that owns the wallet, on any device or browser.
Sending with this phone’s key
Nothing was sent
Nothing left your wallet. The line says why:
- “It stopped before reaching Tempo.” Try again.
- “Try again, or use your wallet key.” The prompt closed, or this key isn’t on this device.
- “This address can’t receive money.” Choose “Change recipient”.
- “This address can’t take this transfer. Use another address.” Choose “Change recipient”.
- “We couldn’t check this address. Try again in a moment.”
- “The network fee is over the limit.” Try again later.
- “Amount plus fee is above your balance.” Choose “Change amount”.
- “Turn on automatic date and time, or try again.”
Check this send
- “Check Activity before you send again.” The outcome isn’t known yet.
- “It was held on arrival. Contact support.” The send went out on Tempo, but it was held on arrival.
This phone’s key stopped working “Nothing was sent. Contact support.”
Contact support, or send with your wallet key.
We couldn’t check the keys added to this wallet.
Swaps couldn’t read your device keys, so this Send uses your wallet key. Try again to read them.
When deleting a device key:
- “The balance can’t cover the network fee. Nothing was deleted.” This fee comes from your balance.
- “That’s not a key of this wallet. Nothing was deleted.”
- “The passkey prompt didn’t finish. Nothing was deleted.”
- “Couldn’t confirm it on Tempo. Check again in a moment.”
- “Tempo still shows this key. Nothing changed.” The deletion went out, but Swaps’ next read of Tempo still shows the key. Its network fee may already have come from your balance. Check the status before you try again.
- “Swaps couldn’t start this. Nothing was deleted.”
- “Approve with a different key. Nothing was deleted.”
- “It’s your last working key. Nothing was deleted.”
- “Turn on automatic date and time. Nothing was deleted.”
- “A step is on its way. Try again within 2 min.”
A stolen key: reporting it and moving your balance
The prompt didn’t finish “Nothing was reported. Act soon if it may be stolen.”
Report it again now: whoever has your key may act first.
Not confirmed “That passkey didn’t sign as your backup. Nothing was reported.”
Another passkey signed. Try again and choose “Swaps backup key · …”.
Report it to support “Your backup can’t report it now.”
No backup key of this wallet can sign the report. Contact support now.
Your backup key doesn’t work now
Whoever has your wallet key may have removed your backup key. Contact support now.
Nothing was reported “Swaps couldn’t start this step. Try again later.”
Swaps stopped before anything was recorded. Try again soon.
When you enter the address:
- “Enter a Tempo address: 0x and 40 characters.”
- “That’s this wallet. Choose a new address.”
- “That’s a token contract. Paste a wallet address.”
- “That address can’t receive funds.”
- “This address can’t receive money. Check the address.”
- “This address can’t take this transfer. Use another address.”
- “It isn’t a wallet. Send to a wallet address instead.” That’s a deposit address Swaps issued.
Each means: enter another Tempo address you control. If the field says “We couldn’t check this address. Nothing was changed. Try again.” or Swaps shows “We couldn’t check this address” with “Nothing was sent. Try again in a moment.”, the check didn’t run: try again.
Nothing was sent “The passkey prompt didn’t finish.” or “Tempo reverted it. At most the network fee was spent.”
After a closed prompt, nothing moved: sign again. After a revert, nothing arrived, but the network fee may have been paid.
Check this send “We couldn’t confirm it on Tempo. Check Activity first.”
The outcome isn’t known yet. Check Activity before you sign again.
Nothing was sent “Swaps couldn’t prepare it. Review again for a fresh quote.”
Nothing moved. Choose “Review” again. The line can also be “Your balance changed. Review it again.” or “The network fee is over the limit.” If Swaps shows “This device’s clock looks wrong” instead, turn on automatic date and time.
Check this send “Not everything arrived. Contact support.”
The move went out on Tempo, but not all of it reached the address. Contact support.
Nothing to move “This wallet’s balance can’t cover the network fee.”
The balance is too small to pay the network fee, so nothing can move.
The rest stays on this wallet “Too small to pay its own network fee.”
The first move went out. What’s left is too small to move.
The rest wasn’t moved
The first move went out; this try for the rest didn’t. Try the rest again on that page.
Couldn’t read the network “Your backup key wasn’t checked. Nothing was sent.”
Swaps couldn’t read Tempo before the move. Try again. After a first move: “Your backup key wasn’t checked. The rest wasn’t moved.”
No backup key “Only your passkeys can move these funds.”
Tempo no longer shows a backup key on this wallet: someone may have removed it. Contact support now.
Payments into your wallet paused
Add money and Receive say “paused”
Your wallet key was reported lost or stolen, so new ways to pay in through Swaps are closed; bank details and links you already shared keep receiving until Swaps support freezes them, and a deposit address can keep receiving after that. Send still works, and whoever has your wallet key can still move your money.
This wallet’s key was reported lost. Don’t send funds here.
In Receive, under “Receiving is paused on this wallet”, and on your wallet’s home. Swaps shows this line after a stolen report and during the 24-hour check too. Ask people not to send to this address: a direct transfer on Tempo can’t be stopped.
Payments in are paused “Your wallet key was reported lost.”
Swaps support recorded your wallet key as lost. Get back in, or, if you found the key, choose “Check wallet key” in Wallet options and contact support.
Payments in are paused “They reopen Nov 2, 12:00 PM UTC.” or “They wait for a Swaps check.”
“After a lost key, payments in wait up to 24 hours for a Swaps check. It can reopen them sooner.”
Payments in are being frozen “Your key was reported stolen.”
New ways to pay in are closed, and the bank details and links you already shared are being frozen; they don’t reopen. A deposit address you shared can keep receiving. Move your balance.
Couldn’t read your wallet “Payments in wait until we can.”
Swaps couldn’t read whether payments in are paused, so they wait. Try again.
Wallet key · Reported lost
Your wallet key is recorded as lost. If you have it again, choose “Check wallet key” just below.
This address can’t take this transfer “Swaps can’t route this transfer to it. Use another address.”
Swaps doesn’t tell them why. If it’s your wallet, see Payments into your wallet are paused.
